Review on 🚙 Jeep TJ 97-06 Jack Hood Hinge Bracket by Warrior Products 1540 by Owen Blanco

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Solid product, needs improvement

A few things to note beforehand: 1) If you use it, you can no longer lean the hood against the windshield frame when repairing the chain. Sounds pretty obvious, but I didn't think about it before buying. 2) It is possible to lock the Hi-Lift but this requires a cable lock. There appears to be a slot on the top for the lock shackle to slide through, but on my Hi-Lift the holes were not properly aligned to allow for this. Yours can align well. The bolt is not long enough to try and drill a hole for the lock on the clamp. 3) It comes with a plastic pin on the clamp to hold the jack. They would be very easy for passers-by to remove, so I decided to get some 3/8-16 locknuts to secure the jack, which shouldn't be a problem as I always carry tools with me. Installation was fairly easy, total time from gathering the tools to getting up and enjoying my newly installed jack was about 40 minutes. Start by removing the screws from the hinges on one side. Position the bracket over the hinge and tighten the rear screws (closest to the windshield) first. Tighten them until they loosen. Repeat on the other bracket. After tightening the rear screws on both brackets, open the hood and install it on the pole. This allows the hood to move back a bit, making tightening the front bolts on each bracket much easier. This will also allow the hood/hinges to be properly aligned. If everything runs, tighten all screws. Here's one area I think they could improve on this product - a 3/16" hole drilled above each fastener would make installation much easier. Either way, you'll need to use a 3/16" hex wrench to get at the fasteners, which is quite a hassle. 1/8 turn tightening sucks, and I dropped a hex wrench in a body cavity I couldn't access, so it stays there. Install the jack, figure out how to protect it from thieves and you're done. BTW I lubricated the bolts with anti-seize lube to make future installation and removal easier if needed. Overall I am very satisfied with this product. It's solidly built, easy to install and aside from a few downsides I've found, if you plan to use a hood mount, it's worth the money. It wasn't my first choice, but it's my only option right now. The product was packaged reasonably well and the delivery of the Revain was very quick as usual.
