I found it odd that the laptop would go from a brightly lit screen to a very dark one every few seconds, then I realized that this corresponded to the charging light going off. I got this behavior right out of the box and nothing seems to stop it. The charger gets VERY hot, hot enough that I have to worry about internal damage, so I ended up putting a floor fan on it until the laptop battery died completely. charged, this didn't seem to stop/reduce the shutdown, which I hope is an overheat protection method. It's possible that this laptop is using over 65W while charging the battery, but I'm replacing the factory charger with a 65W one. So I think it only consumes 65W, I mean it has i7-620um, 15W CPU.
