Review on ๐ŸŽฎ Gatwick Games - A Hilarious and Addictive Competitive Experience by Ryan Lindstrom

No slaps but obvious smiles and laughter

I expected this game to be stupid. enjoy every game. Let me get that out of the way first... You can now play this game with a standard deck or two of playing cards. In the actual game there are four "suits" (Yeti, Dragons, Goats, Gnomes), just like in a normal deck of cards (diamonds, hearts, clubs, kings) and three special actions (flexibility, horns, mustaches). which can be played with royal cards (jacks, queens, kings). Then simply use aces as starting cards to build the game. You _could_ do it, but it wouldn't be as fun. This is mainly due to the art. The graphic design in this game is top notch. The cards have bright and rich colors, and the character pictures are big and fun. They even did a great job on the rulebook - rulebooks usually look like an afterthought in game boxes, but this one was fun and easy to read, and they featured even more art. The box is great too. The cards have a nice glossy finish which makes them easy to peel/slide which is important in this type of speed game. The first five games I played were with my parents in the 70's. It was fun (in a good way) to watch my mom create various action cards before trying to quickly put her card down in front of mine or dad's card. I've since played it with my wife and kids and it will remain easily accessible on our board game shelf in the future for when we want to play something quickly. As I said in the title, there are no slaps in this game (it _doesn' look like Slap Jack). It's just a game of spotting and speed to get a card from your deck on the table before everyone else. The rules state that this game is intended for children over 7 years old. You _can_ play it with younger kids (the rules are really very simple and the gameplay is fun), just be aware that you have to slow down because younger kids just aren't that quick and then prepared for the curved maps. Definitely recommend this game as a fun filler game for a game night or even as a centerpiece for a family game night.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Good but not great
