SumoSpring fender on Sprinter/Winnebago Via 25C

My Mercedes Sprinter Winnebago Via 23C was swaying too much due to strong cross winds and passing trucks. So much so that the dogs got seasick and the trip from Florida to Kentucky became unbearable. These SumoSpring bumpers help reduce front end impact and offer much better stability than factory bumpers. Installation requires a bit of planning with a 13mm deep manhole and an extension. Spray the old factory locknuts with a Rust Blaster to make them easier to remove. A 13mm deep socket is required to access the nut, which is recessed in the clamshell bracket. I found it handy to wrap them in a layer of teflon tape to hold the new nut and washer in place in the deep well bushing. The Teflon tape was thin enough to hold each of them in place while I manually threaded the bushing, washer, and nut onto the new Sumo fender's stud. Once he started carving; After carefully unloading the alligator jack, lower the frame to begin compressing the fender and allow the nut to be fully tightened while the fender is partially compressed. I have to say it's a lot more stable side to side. Some say it's a little harder to drive than factory bumpers, but I prefer better stability and don't have to constantly struggle with truck and crosswind steering.

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Something different
