Unusable even for a paperweight

This remote control broke completely after 3 weeks. Philips officially lost my business as a result. Background: I have an old Philips flat screen, circa 2011. It was purchased in an open box with no remote control, so I bought a Philips branded remote control for compatibility. This worked straight away without me having to set it up for my Philips TV. Perfectly programmed on my Samsung Blu-ray and in use for 7 working years. Kids and time have been heavy on this console for the last few years. The mute button stopped working and the range was getting shorter, so I bought this Philips remote control. First review: Right out of the box, this thing feels light and cheap. Much wider and thinner than the old one. The TV area is at the bottom, while I'm used to these features at the top. Annoying, but I can relearn. The TV function doesn't work out of the box, but I programmed the TV and Blu-ray with no problems. It's disappointing that it no longer comes with Philips as a TV, but that's okay. Deal Breach: After a week I notice that he doesn't always pick up the signal. I can get the volume to work, but the channel buttons require a bit more effort (point the remote up, no, down, no, left. Yes, that's it). Two weeks have passed: now I get up and go to the TV to change the channel. Three weeks: nothing. So I swap the batteries and try to reprogram but to no avail. The display on the remote control works correctly and the programming sequence works, but the remote control does not connect to a Philips or Samsung Blu-ray TV. Of course I threw the box away after a few days and the 30 day return period expired. The time I eat around is my fault. But seriously? Three weeks before failure?! The old remote still works just fine until I can buy a generic Samsung one.

Pros
  • New to my collection
Cons
  • Not as good as it says
