Good product but not easy for beginners

This seems to be a very good scanner but it has a fairly steep learning curve. You don't just turn it on and start scanning. The radio requires extensive setup and programming before use, which is quite difficult for a newbie like me to understand. All the frequencies and other specifics of what you want to hear have to be entered into the device's memory, which means you need to know these things before you start. Fortunately, many of these are available online. The instruction manual is not very well written and a bit confusing. Tip: Visit the Uniden website and download the USB drivers and programming software. This is much easier than programming the scanner directly. I bought the scanner primarily to monitor aircraft movement and it works surprisingly well. I can hear the local control tower from my home which is over 15 miles away! Read the information before you buy. Make sure what you want to hear is available. For example, many local police, fire and other frequencies are now scrambled or transmitted over closed networks not accessible to the public.
