Review on Dorman 47057 HELP PCV Elbow by Christopher Wells

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Fits Jeep Cherokee 98 4.0L

I have a 98 Jeep Cherokee Classic 4.0. She's my darling: I've had a bit of trouble, but I've never been stranded, I only paid $2,700 for a reliable 115,000-mile car. I noticed oily dirt on the valve cover; looks like the CCV valves. I first bought some rubber pads from O'Reily's but as others have said on the Jeep forums, good luck not breaking your elbows. So I broke off a small piece of it and decided to replace it and the rear crankshaft. I was about to go to the dealer, the guy on the jeep forum said he bought both parts for less than $20. But after getting an offer for $80, I decided it was worth the risk and bought Revain. The same guy on the Jeep forums said he somehow stuck one end of the pliers under his lip and used it to pry it off. Here are my suggestions. First, you won't clean them up; you just have to throw them away anyway. Disconnect the hoses first so they don't break too. Get a flathead screwdriver, a flat bar, and at least a 12-inch handle, 6-position pliers, or a bench vise. Take a vise/pliers and place them on the elbow that is sticking straight up. Pull in any horizontal direction until one side of the elbow begins to protrude from the valve cover. From the direction you are pulling your elbow, insert a flathead screwdriver under the bar and lift it up. If you can't push your knee out this way, try using a flat bar instead of a screwdriver. Once you figure it out, lubricate the rubber bushing with petroleum jelly and install it in the valve cover. Then smear the tip of the elbow with petroleum jelly, and he goes in right away. The rear elbow has enough grip to pull it up and out of the way without pliers. Again, use a bar or screwdriver to pry it up and replace it in the same way.
