Review on BTECH UV 25X4 Tri Band Mobile Radio by Stephen Johnson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good radio but there are problems with RFI.

Like this radio, I use it in the car and at home. But besides the annoying ticking relay when scanning over 220, it has another annoying bug that can be fixed. I just discovered the problem myself. When powered by the same power source as my HF setup (Yaesu FT-857D), I hear its on/off sound effects which are a bit distorted, like in the receiver of my HF setup. You may also hear the scan clock ticking in the setup's HF receiver, as well as semi-distorted audio in the HF setup of the received BTECH audio as the channel wakes up. I've tried wrapping a ferrite ring around the power line going to the BTECH radio and wrapping some clamps on the type cores but those attempts didn't work, it's still bleeding. If I connect BTECH to another power source, the problem goes away. I power my entire station from a single 50 amp power supply and BTECH is the only device that plugs into other devices. I'd love to figure out how to run this radio on the same power supply, but first I need to figure out how to block this splash problem. energy source. I replaced my switching power supply with a reliable linear power supply and the problem went away. Now all radio stations coexist peacefully.
