We use this pitcher for cold brewing iced tea and yes it is safe. If it doesn't contain BPA, it's safe. The question about its safety reflects another reviewer's preferences. Jug and handle are sturdy for 83 oz. The larger one is quite heavy and may require two hands to carry. We estimated the measurements in the description so we knew it would fit on the top shelf of the fridge. It didn't stain after a week in the fridge with iced tea. Note: We always use a small amount of Oil-Eater to clean all containers (cups, jugs, etc.) used for coffee and tea. Any stain will dissolve. There might have been stains on the lid but the degreaser took care of that. I took off a star for a few small reasons. The lid can be slightly higher to prevent spills and has two spouts, one open and one for sifting ice. We are careful and didn't spill anything so it wasn't a big problem. Additionally, the measurements are given in milliliters instead of ounces, which would be more convenient for US users. The measurement markings are on the opposite side to be useful for right-handers. You will be fine if you are left handed.
