Excellent KVM for DVI

I bought this last year as well as the more recent model of it (3-port) in the StarTech range. My experience with both switches is the same. What to say when something works perfectly? No problems, no incompatibilities, no disconnections. Boxes stand unobtrusively on my desks. They never seem to get hot. I like the extra USB slots (top-loading angled adapters) that the larger model has. But that's a lot of money if you don't need the switching capacity. I strongly recommend that you purchase the included DVI cables for use with this device. These are cables that wrap DVI in one cable along with USB, audio and microphone. Connecting computers is very easy if you have several cables of this type. Seeing the difference it would make, I ordered a few and waited to install the box. The sheer weight of the cables will try to lift the switch off the table unless you secure them or weight the switch. There is a 1-2 second screen lag when switching from one PC to another, so don't expect it to happen immediately. That means you can't really work in real time on 2 or 3 computers at the same time. Switching delays prevent this. For me it was no problem. I used USB ports for USB-VGA display adapter, mouse, etc. They worked fine. Thinking about it, I finally decided to keep my third VGA (USB) display connected directly to a PC. This gave me half the desktop all the time. Using two wireless mice (one on the switch and one locally on the PC) allowed me to do quite a few things at the same time. This is great equipment. I am very happy with the end result.

Pros
  • Great selection
Cons
  • I vaguely remember
