Excellent KVM for DVI

I bought this last year as well as the more recent model of it (3-port) in the StarTech range. My experience with both switches is the same. What to say when something works perfectly? No problems, no incompatibilities, no disconnections. Boxes stand unobtrusively on my desks. They never seem to get hot. I like the extra USB slots (top-loading angled adapters) that the larger model has. But that's a lot of money if you don't need the switching capacity. I strongly recommend that you purchase…

Solid device. Costs money.

I bought this to replace Belk in Soho KVM. Belkin was cheap and gave me problems from day one. This one works great, I haven't had any issues except that it doesn't like my wired Apple keyboard. I switched to a Logitech K750 keyboard and had no issues with the cents I bought to replace Belk in Soho KVM. The Belkin was cheap and gave me sound and USB issues from day one. This one works great, I haven't had any issues except that it doesn't like my wired Apple keyboard. I switched to a Logitech…

Works most of the time, but there are some problems.

Pros: Pretty quick switching between 4 dual monitor configurations. I don't want to be picky, but with a product like this, you either do it right or you don't do it at all. Initially, the switch seemed to work well enough, and it's a real pleasure to toggle between the four dual-monitor settings. However, over time I noticed that my illuminated keyboard flickered at times. Then I noticed the same thing with my mouse. During such events, the mouse/keyboard became unresponsive and skipped clicks

It would be great if it worked properly

For some reason I had a problem where the device lost sync intermittently. I've contacted StarTech support a couple of times but they don't have any real answers on how to fix the issue. I replaced the block and the same problem persists. It's a great concept and solution for my workspace setup, but the regular dropping of signal to the monitors is unacceptable. Build quality seems good and when it works it seems to work well for the most part. From time to time I have issues with the mouse…

Good but not great. USB is not very reliable.

Great concept, works on both Mac and PC. Video works well with two monitors. The analog audio output and microphone input also work well. What doesn't work well is USB switching. The mouse and keyboard will freeze intermittently for 15-20 seconds before returning. This happens about every 5 minutes, which is unacceptably annoying. If you have an application that requires a constant connection to a USB device (e.g. streaming video from a USB webcam), the 15-20 second USB gap mentioned above may…

Hard to find configuration at a reasonable price

The specific configuration of this KVM is hard to find. Essentially, the two companies make 4-port dual-port DVI USB monitors with 2 DVI inputs for each port. StarTech's offering is the cheapest of the two at about half that, but it doesn't suffer in any way, except perhaps in form factor. A more expensive piece of equipment from another manufacturer can be rack mounted, but the basic rack compartment solved that problem and StarTech was still a lot cheaper. This is the fifth StarTech KVM I…
