Can't get rid of the smell!

I was so happy to find the plastic free toothbrush holders and they looked great when I opened the package. but I can't get rid of the smell! They kind of smell like fire, very strong even after soaking them in soapy water overnight (well, now they smell like fire that you're trying to mask with dish soap). Unfortunately, this smell transfers to the toothbrush left in overnight. So crazy.
