This device seems to have been made with the right idea. The most important is the diode that I show in the photo. It is connected properly and prevents current from flowing back into the 9V battery (which by the way is not intended). So this part is good. Note that the side legs of the plug are not connected to each other. This increases the likelihood of a loss of connection. I would prefer to have both side knives connected together. The big problem is that the connection to the cigarette lighter/accessory socket is "flaky" at best. If an electrical device is to be activated in the vehicle, either by user action or by an automatic event while using that device, all power must come from the 9 volt battery. Modern cars are very often electrically active in the supposed "off" state. Think of car alarms, ultrasonic security devices, car equipment connected to a cellular network, etc. Of course, I prefer a more secure connection with a powerful battery, e.g. B. an OBDII connector with a suitable cable. Considering how painful it is to go through a drive cycle to reset all the monitors on my car, I don't want to risk memory loss. This device won't break your car, but it can cause you to lose all your settings and have trouble driving until everything is reset with a new car battery.
