I've waited a very long time to write this review because I think that when safety is a concern, a product deserves a serious test drive. As you can see from the photos, we use this cat flap on a daily basis. Here's how we turned a sliding glass door into a cat-friendly, winter-proof portal. We built a tunnel and added this door on the inside of the tunnel. We laid it on its side to keep cold air from blowing through the sash - it's ugly in New England in January. The tunnel opens into a screened patio area and I made another cat hatch out of thick plastic that I bought from Joanne's craft store so we basically built a narrow rectangle, pressed it into the door and added this cat door on the inside. Above the tunnel we used 1" plywood to fill in the top of the open patio door. We put insulation on the outside of the wood and the pool noodle to clamp it in very tightly. In winter I covered the patio door with shrink wrap. pack things up and I also use heat shields. It's not perfect, but my cats now have two ways of accessing the cation throughout the winter (they have a similar setup in their bedroom window with a large door and turret and a long tunnel that they use as a second route to the cation), how well this cat flap works. They all learned how to use it quickly and it really keeps the wind out of our house. It quickly closes behind them, but they can still push it. You can see the tunnel in the photos (yes I saved an air conditioner on it). sticks his head in the tunnel to see what's going on - my house has 7 baby gates to protect the cats and dog. find your own business. I hope this helps any pet owner who has a unique door/window. I looked everywhere for a patio door solution and I NEVER wanted to pay that much money! We honestly built this setup out of reclaimed lumber and dollar tree pool noodles. Just style it to match the opening you need to work with. Best cat purchase in a long time!
