I bought the medium one first as I'm 5ft 9" and 147lbs. After the first 5-10 minutes I felt very squeezed. I sent the medium ones back and bought the large ones. but not to the point of embarrassment. With fleece inside I stay very warm. The polyester/spandex blend is smooth on the outside and won't cling to the outer layer of clothing. I machine wash them in cold water and let them air dry so they don't shrink. In addition, they have no tag (the size is on the inside), nothing chafes the skin. Nice to wear indoors when the thermostat is set low or outdoors as an extra layer of protection in autumn and winter. Will buy a second pair. Good value for money.
