large lighter; A few small issues

First I want everyone to know that this lighter is awesome. The twin lantern lights up everything (even nubs) in seconds. The quality is what you'd expect from Xikar and the lifetime warranty justifies the price. I have a Bugatti B-1 flashlight which I received for free from Cigar.com as part of an offer and this lighter should be high quality and cost $100 but even with Xikar fuel (which is said to be the best) I can't get it to glow after filling it more than standing up several times. So I decided to go ahead and buy a Xikar with a kick (I really liked the kicks on my Bugatti and even considered swapping it out for the Xikar Versa as it's pretty much the same). There are two issues with Element. since i got it. I immediately filled it with Xikar fuel after bleeding the tank with the MTX multi-tool and making sure there was no gas or air in it. It took over 15 seconds to fill the fuel gauge even halfway, so even with a dual burner, one tank should last a while. However; When I pulled the plunger (which surrounds the dial) to turn it to its lowest setting before filling, it literally pulled the dial out. I recently smashed a cheap lighter this way and was horrified; I think that I have to send it back as soon as I receive it. However; it turned out to be a pretty good thing. There is a slot in the bore of the fuel valve that aligns with the groove on the dial so it can be easily reinstalled. Otherwise I probably would never have gotten the lighter to work. The dial only turns all the way in either direction, and I couldn't get the lighter to work at all after the fuel temperature returned to room temperature after filling the lighter. My solution was to remove the dial and raise the fuel valve higher with needle nose pliers and then replace the dial within the range that it works. Now the lighter works perfectly and I can set the flame to the perfect high or low setting. I suppose it could only be an issue if it wasn't properly calibrated before leaving the factory, but luckily I knew a little bit about the mechanics of the lighter and was able to get it working. However; If anyone received this lighter and didn't realize that turning the valve itself adjusts the flame height they would have to return it for a replacement or refund and for that I only give four stars out of five. Pros: Wonderful double torch flame that can light huge cigars in seconds, an expertly crafted smack that gives me a lot less trouble than my Bugatti B-1 stamps (which, by the way, can be removed from the handle of this lighter and sometimes pop out of the lighter) . hand if you try to use them >=(,) fine craftsmanship, Xikar lifetime warranty Cons: terrible size which I had to fix with a little ingenuity, the flame control dial can pop out when you pull the striking arm (but it pops back out immediately ,) the punch is so wide that it really can't be used for 42 caliber or smaller (crowns, pantels, lanceros, etc.), sometimes I have to press the button a couple of times to make it light up (press pretty fast) In general, I am completely satisfied with this purchase. I finally have a lighter I can rely on; and if there are major problems, i know xikar will replace it for free. Just make sure you get triple butane or better and you really can't go wrong with this lighter. In addition, if you register your lighter on the Xikar website, a leather case will be sent to you free of charge. The lighter isn't a very tight fit but it protects the fairing and I've read many reviews that the metal fairing comes off fairly easily. Also the hole punch is still a great feature and while I can't use it for smaller cigars I still have the MTX multi tool which allows me to cut smaller cigars (not to mention I have 4 guillotine cutters ). , and a cheap v-cutter, lol.) Edit: 3-27-12! I had to return this lighter to Xicar because the spark stopped igniting the butane. Considering I only used Purofine (Xikar brand butane) there shouldn't be a problem. Spring; Shipping to Xikar cost me less than $3 and I made sure to register it as soon as I bought it. Hopefully when it comes back I won't have this problem anymore and maybe they can fix the dial so it doesn't pop out again while they have it. Still a great lighter and with a lifetime guarantee I am still completely satisfied with the purchase.
