Review on 🐠 Hikari USA AHK72238 1-Gallon Ultimate Aquarium Water Conditioner by Mandy Martin

I purchased this product in hopes of removing high levels of ammonia from tap water. I tested the water for ammonia after adding this liquid and read no ammonia when tested. uuuu! It actually seemed to remove ammonia (too good to be true?). but where does it go then? I assume it converts immediately to nitrite and then quickly to nitrate; which is not optimal as I bought the product hoping to reduce the high nitrate levels in my pond. After using this product in tap water, there was no evidence of ammonia, nitrite or nitrate at the tap, but when added to the pond during a 30% water change, nitrate still rose after the new water had passed through the pond several times. I still gave it 5 stars because it (miraculously) does what it says on the tin, but the 'removed' ammonia still seems to convert it to nitrate. So the ammonia didn't really go away completely. It's very confusing how all this is possible and how it works. This is definitely a great product that will make chlorine, ammonia, nitrites and chloramines safe for your fish, but your filter will still treat the nutrients as if they were still in the water. PROS: Does what it says on the tin better than any other similar product on the market. Other products still test positive for combined ammonia, this product shows 0. CONS: This is a really thick liquid and not concentrated enough to be used for large pond water changes at this price point. That's very expensive.
