This is a must have for your child's play area. Our old one was worn out from daily use (over a year now) and the kid even punctured one of the spots so we had to get rid of it. We're replacing it with this one and it's the perfect size for a playpen. This provided a good base to protect the baby from our vinyl floor. In fact, our child learned to walk on such a surface, and when he fell, it didn't hurt. However, please be very careful with the baby's head as it may still be damaged depending on the angle of impact. If you walk on it, the surface won't leave a mark, but if you put something too heavy on it, it may leave a dent. It may or may not "spring back" to its original state. We have "normal" toys such as books, stuffed animals, electronic toys, etc. and nothing presses on the mats. It's more durable than you think. I love that it comes in a zipped pouch making it great for travel and storage. The reversibility is great too, as we flip and change it from time to time for a fresh new look. Best of all, it's very easy to clean - just wipe with a semi-dampened cloth or antibacterial wipes. This material really attracts the hair as I often find my long hair clinging to the mats until I physically brush it off. We were recently caring for a family member's dog and since the dog was in a new place he didn't know where to go on the potty and went to this mat. I immediately wiped it down with alcohol and a disinfectant wipe. You can even wash it with soap and water (in the bathroom) if you like. We also do deep cleans in the children's play area from time to time, so we stack those rugs while we sanitize the vinyl floors. It folds beautifully, very compact, just like you would fold a blanket or a folding mattress. This is one of those items where the sooner you buy, the more value you get. Babies can lie on this mat from infancy as you can lay it on your tummy, play gymnastics or just use it as a large tummy mat. As they grow, you will experience many milestones on a mat like this — first time to roll over, first time to crawl, first time to stand up, first time to walk, and the list goes on. I recommend this mat and personally think it looks better than those multi colored cling foam mats. Get one first to see if you like it, but chances are you'll get more over time, just like I did!
