The manual recommends doing this
I used several microfiber towels to dry the car which took forever and left lots of water stains as my car dried out in the summer heat before I got anywhere could . I rub it all over the car quickly once and then go back to dry it as completely as possible. It absorbs a lot of water, but has to be wrung out several times. I wash it in the washing machine after each use, roll it up damp and put it back in the container it came in. I had no problems with the musty smell. The manual recommends this.
