It works! Enables the use of a fully-fledged, "real " sound system instead of weak TV speakers.

works! We recently bought a Samsung Blu-Ray player as a gift for my brother-in-law and his lover. Their flat screen had mediocre built-in speakers, and their old receiver didn't have HDMI inputs, only analog stereo RCA audio inputs. I bought this unit AND ALSO this C2G/Cables To Go 29115 Velocity S/PDIF Digital Audio Coax Cable (6ft). When we plugged it in, it worked straight away. Movie audio sounds good and clear. The sound is in sync with the picture. Now they have real bass and power in their setup. This will be a solution for them until they can afford a modern 7.1 surround receiver/speaker. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - CAUTIONS, TECH TIPS: Caution 1: Provides stereo output only (left and right analog audio jacks). In your Blu-ray player's settings: You **must** use the PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) output setting if you want this to work correctly - it's stated on the box. Well, some people might have an older receiver that has surround synthesis for a 5.1 system, but typically if you have that feature then someone "tends" to have HDMI inputs on their receiver as well. If you have HDMI inputs on your audio receiver. Why bother? It's a job for those who don't. If your receiver has HDMI inputs, you probably don't need it. IF your receiver has HDMI inputs but you're not getting audio output 1. Check your settings and the order you turn on the components (I find turning on my plasma TV before turning on my receiver works best). 2. You may need to find an HDMI cable that says it has "Audio Return". If you need such a workaround to feed an analog signal into an older sound system, then ---> run your Blu-Ray player's audio output through the analog inputs of a decent stereo system with this interface conversion box outperforms pants when weak speakers are in the most televisions. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Attention 2: OREI **DOES NOT PROVIDE** NON-OPTICAL (ie copper wire) CABLE, which mine will be the solution that most people actually need. YOU MUST BUY SEPARATELY. I highly recommend getting a special "digital" cable labeled for SPDIF (Sony/Panasonic Digital Interface) like in the link mentioned above - they're $5-$10. If you try to use a traditional analog RCA audio cable, the digital signal may be distorted or the sound may stutter, especially if you use a long cable.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Caveat 3: I believe there are some Blu-Ray players that for cost reasons have omitted the SPDIF connector which is like a single RCA connector looks . In that case, this product is not the solution you could use. One last note, this device also comes with an optical connector interface and optical cable, probably 3ft. I haven't used or tested this feature, so I can't say how well it works. You *could* connect your Blu-ray player's HDMI cable to your flat screen and then, IF it has an optical output, use the included optical cable with this OREI box and then connect your analog RCA cables to your stereo. Big Unknown: Will audio output "lag" or stay in sync with your TV? Sometimes you can set a video/audio delay on your TV. You just have to check. If your receiver has built-in HDMI, you usually don't need to use this type of product.
