First off, it's probably a lot of common sense (but I've learned from experience) that if you're going to use this stake, you need to make sure the ground isn't too soft (the dog can use it otherwise pull out). I used it once in the back of my house where the soil was pretty wet and my dog could pull everything out and run away. So if it is easy to put it in the ground, it will be easy for the dog to pull it out. In addition, if you leave it in the same place in the ground and it rains, you need to check how durable it is in the ground. My dog is only 21 pounds so a larger dog would have had an even easier time getting him out. That is the main reason for the three stars I gave it.
