I bought this ice cream maker and was very happy with it. Based on other reviews I read about this, I froze the bowls for a full 24 hours before using. I added the ingredients, put the lid on and the lid won't close. It lies freely on the shell. Everything was fine at first, but then the liquid froze to a 1/2 inch layer all over the bowl. At this point, the frozen layer was interfering with the blade's attachment, and the cover (because it won't close) wouldn't stay in place. bottom line? Spread 1/2 inch of frozen solid milk all over the bowl while the rest of the ice cream is still in liquid form. If the lid could fit the bowl snugly, it would probably prevent the liquid from freezing in a layer on top of the bowl. bowl and can actually produce decent ice cream. Given enough time and tools, I might find a way to make a good seal and maybe make real ice cream. But for a $25 ice cream machine, I didn't want to waste my time. I returned the item as defective and received a full refund plus shipping costs.
