Review on WAVLINK Display Charging 1XDisplayport Ethernet by Curtis Domus

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Perfect for my WFH setup.

Ideal for my setup. I'm a software architect and my work laptop is a Mac and my desktop is a PC. I was looking for a way to simplify my setup with a keyed rat jack that I used to connect my 2018 13-inch MacBook Pro to my desktop monitor and wired ethernet. This was actually my second purchase of a Wavlink docking station. The first didn't provide power through the docking station, which I hadn't considered before buying it. I ended up returning this one and buying this one because connecting two cables, one for power and one for the dock, wasn't much of an improvement over my previous situation. I prefer this dock to the last and am always amazed that I get video, audio, power and ethernet from a single USB-C port. It also means I don't have to connect both dock power and charger.one Mac device that had an issue with the latest dock as I'm running out of open outlets on the strip. video editing or photography. I can't comment on the volume of the dock's audio output either, as I mainly use my laptop's audio. I will say that the Mac works well by prioritizing the right output and not automatically going to the dock every time, which annoyed me with the previous dongle setup. The dongle HDMI connection was switching my audio to the monitor's built-in speaker every time I connected and it was driving me nuts. I don't have this problem with this dock, but it's more likely macOS related. Ethernet speed seems good. I haven't really gotten her to test large transfers or anything like that, but she does report gigabit speeds on macOS and my video calls. everything works smoothly. I also didn't use an SD card reader, so I can't comment on performance or speed. No complaints, it would be nice if the dock had USB-C ports. The only USB-C port is for the dock input to connect a laptop. There are no USB-C ports for peripherals. This isn't a problem for me as most of my desktop peripherals are still USB A's and I have adapters for others. This can be annoying when you have tons of USB devices. The only issue I've had is that sometimes when my laptop wakes up from sleep it won't always reconnect to the dock. Disconnecting and reconnecting the USB seems to fix the problem, or cycling the dock with the power button fixes the problem quickly, so it doesn't really matter to me. Overall I am very happy with this docking station. It's a bit pricey, I was able to spend my money on the job and I'm not sure I would pay that much with my own money. But I'm very glad I bought it for work.
