Review on Ultimate Precision: Proxxon 28600 Micromot Drill Stand for Unparalleled Accuracy and Control by Bobby Martinez

Great but misassembled

Excellent drill stand and press but misassembled at factory. This drill stand is excellent in design and durability. I use it with my Proxxon Rotary Tool and Proxxon Microcompound Table to drill thin holes (1 to 6mm) in stainless steel and aluminum to make optical mounts and parts. However, there are no assembly or operating instructions or drawings of the inner workings (no information on lowering the drill and then holding it; the open head screw on the edge of the tool holder must be tightened). A fairly basic machine, but Proxxon ships it with the wrong assembly from the factory. As can be seen in all the photos, the press handle is almost vertical when the tool is in its highest position. However, this is incorrect because when the handle is fitted in this position, the tool bit (yellow piece of metal) cannot be lowered down to the lowest position (meaning you won't get the expected 40-45mm of travel). My abs could only go down 10mm until I pulled them apart to see why. Remove the yellow tool holder (one screw on the front) and rotate the handle clockwise to the 5 o'clock position (this will rotate the internal gear to the new position). Then reinsert the yellow tool holder so that its rack engages the gear and try to turn the handle all the way forward. Adjust this position until the tool holder falls to the 0 mark on the scale with the indicator up (45mm). Then insert the screw and tighten it again. You'll find that the plastic ball on the handle rubs slightly on the vertical positioning screw that holds the body against the shaft. You can cut or remove the ball or live with it. The press will work great! I explained Proxxon and sent them lots of pictures to explain that they hadn't assembled it properly before shipping. They tried to help me install it before they and I realized there was a problem. Hopefully this will be fixed in the future. They thanked me with free supplies. It's a pleasure to work with them.
