Review on Superior Performance: ASUS USB-AC68 AC1900 Dual-Band USB 3.0 WiFi Adapter with Cradle by John Butler

High speed, terrible reliability

Probably one of the best USB adapters I've ever owned. I can easily reach download speeds of 250Mbps, which is my top speed from Comcast, and it maintains that speed throughout the download. My biggest issue with this and most wireless adapters is that driver support is incredibly patchy. At the time of writing, the latest driver was released on May 8th, 2017 and this version still hasn't solved the problem I've been having since I bought it in January. Even after trying several different versions, I still face the same problem. Sometimes after a few hours of use, the connection drops randomly and I hear the Windows system play a sound as if the USB device was removed and reinserted. This only seems to happen when I'm connected to my N/AC wireless home network. For a card designed to take advantage of the new AC power, it's extremely frustrating to chronically encounter this issue even after a clean install of Windows 10. It gets even more confusing and frustrating when the USB-AC68 is plugged into an Asus connection to the Asus motherboard. If you're just looking for a good wireless adapter for file transfer and download speeds, the USB-AC68 is for you; However, if you want to play games or do something else that requires a solid connection, I wouldn't recommend it due to its tendency to drop connections. If anyone knows what could be causing this, I'd love to know. Update 09/25/2017: I was contacted by the Asus loyalty program and wanted me to send them a unit for defect assessment. I was not told if they would cover shipping costs. What made this really unacceptable was that they would not provide me with a temporary replacement for a 7-10 day review period for my unit AFTER they received it. While I appreciate trying to fix my problem, it is asking too much for them to ask me to remove my communication without compensation or replacement to correct their mistake. Moral of the story: If you have a problem with this device or any other device, try Revain to fix it. At least they know how to provide good customer service.
