Review on Beck Arnley 158 0768 Mass Sensor by James Wickware

Buy from the OEM or throw your money away.

I bought this when my friend's VW Jetta had a Check Engine Light (CEL) and the code matched a faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. After looking at the dealer for about $300, I settled on the secondary market. What I found was crazy. On ebay people are selling mass air flow sensors for $25, after reading the reviews they were clearly junk so I wanted something better. That's when I found this sensor being offered by Beck Arnley for a reasonable price of about $80 and I heard good things about Beck Arnley so I bought it. just change it to a new one. It took about 10 minutes. The performance WAS better, but a few hours later CEL came back with new code. However, this time it didn't exactly match the typical MAF sensor trouble codes, so I assumed I had a new problem. Relying on the fact that the new mass air flow sensor worked, I replaced a host of other commonly found faulty parts found in the Jetta. I gave it to the dealer to no avail and after a few minutes they said the mass air flow sensor was defective. This time I reached into my wallet and paid for the OEM MAF sensor. Since then, the car has been driving as well as every VW Jetta. In general, in my experience, buying an OEM part would be cheaper and easier than trying this. Depends on what you can afford, but when it comes to sensors, based on my experience with them, I will always buy OEM parts.
