Works great when manufacturer's instructions are followed

I have a Holmes - WEMO humidifier that uses a Homes "W" filter. These filters are hard to come by, often out of stock from the manufacturer, and last less than three weeks. In the past I have had to top up filters for the entire season when they became available or face the reality of living in very dry air. The WeMo humidifier works great with "W" filters, but for 10 days, flip the filter over to keep it working. On the 21st day, the filter becomes hard and unusable. I found this filter and was a bit nervous after reading the reviews. But given the alternative, even if it only works for one season, I'm a step ahead. I ordered a filter and was pleasantly surprised. It not only works, it works well. I followed the instructions in the email to install it, wet the filter and installed it into WeMo. We are in the second week and the filter shows no signs of clogging, it is still fairly clean, no signs of scale or calcification. I removed the filter and cleaned it anyway. The manufacturer recommends cold water and washing-up liquid for light calcification, vinegar for moderate calcification and hydrochloric acid for heavy calcification. I bought some hydrochloric acid just in case. I was so impressed with this filter that I bought a second one as a spare. My plan is to change the filters every two weeks, clean and store the cleaned filters, treat them like disposable filters, change them every two weeks and move on.
