Review on πŸ”§ Enhanced Trunnion Upgrade Kit by Comp Cams for GM LS1/LS2/LS3/LS6 Rocker Arms by Brett Cat

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great solution and also prevents bearing damage.

This is a great idea for any LS1 engine that was installed in both 1998 thru 2002 F-body (Camaro and Firebirds) and C-5 Corvettes. Even if your LS1 motor is completely stock, I highly recommend this kit. The stock rocker bearings on the LS1 are cageless needle bearings, which means they can, and often do, be retired from racing. When this happens lots of tiny needle roller bearings come out of the rocker which at the very least means they are floating in your engine which in this case can be very difficult to find. Obviously small pieces of metal floating in your engine can cause damage themselves. In addition, it is possible that even more serious damage could result from the failure of the rocker arm. When these bearings come out they can go or stick in many places causing immediate damage or possibly hiding somewhere and coming out again later unless you do a full disassembly of the motor (this is a really big project compared to installation). kit until it happens to you). In my case, after reviewing the dealer reports, I learned that the stock rocker arm bearings in my 1998 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 with LS-1 engine only ran 16,000 miles, the dealer replaced the rocker arms with newer, improved ones and also flushed the engine. There were STILL loose bearings that got stuck somewhere in the engine for another 24,000 miles. This can happen on a stock engine in good condition with low mileage, as happened in my case. However, while changing the oil I found a couple of pins from one of the rocker arm bearings on the oil pan drain plug. The motor ran as good as ever and showed no signs of bearing failure, only its appearance alerted me to this problem. If you have an LS1 engine, do yourself a favor and install this kit. The stock rocker arms on the LS1 are very well designed and very light, however this is a vulnerable area and I highly recommend doing this upgrade before you hit bearing failure. There are 33 of these pins in each of the two races of the round bearings per rocker, so with MANY tiny bearings this can be a big problem. They will not fall apart like standard rocker arm bearings can. The cost of the insurance that you get with this kit is not very expensive. The installation is quite easy. You will need to remove the valve covers and use one of many methods to remove the stock bearings and replace them with the ones in this kit. This kit contains the parts you see in the photo, a complete set of new bearings with cages (32 total), a complete set of pins (16), new rocker arm pins (16) and new brackets (32). The kit also includes two washers to make removing and installing new bearings easier. The bearings are pressed in, so they can be fitted in a variety of ways. You can use a hydraulic press if you have one. If not, a power drill can be used with the supplied washers and some sockets. You can use sockets and locksmith vise. Or you can purchase an installation tool for use with the vise sold by Summit Racing, which I did to ensure proper alignment when installing the bearings, a $40 tool that I think is worth buying for the job. Included with the upgrade kit and tool are instructions and several online videos showing the installation process. This is a very simple process, just make sure the rocker arms are replaced where they came from when the new bearings were installed. Also, a torque wrench along with a #6 socket wrench is required to install the included new bolts up to 22 ft-lbs. the more costly and debatable question of whether this is a good idea, especially if you are not using a very high lift cam. There were also companies that would let you ship stock rocker arms and fit new bearings for you. Some options to consider. I didn't want downtime so I went with this kit and the installation wasn't difficult. It's not an expensive kit and it's not difficult to install, but it can save you a lot of trouble whether you have a stock LS1 engine or a modified one. one. It's an update that's even used in racing apps, so it's a great permanent fix. If you have questions about this, there are some good websites where you can find many others who have done this setup and more. LS1tech.com is good. So if you have bearing failure or are trying to prevent it I urge everyone to purchase and install this kit, it is well worth the money and effort and will give you peace of mind.
