Review on 🌱 ÖKOCAT Eco-Friendly Natural Wood Clumping Litter by Veronica Ramos

This litter shook my family's world!

A few months ago my boyfriend and I decided to expand our house by getting a cat. While we haven't found a cat to adopt yet, we wanted to prepare everything in advance so we're ready whenever it happens. One of the first things I did was carefully research what filler to use. My boyfriend and I have very sensitive noses and the smell of cat discharge bothers us. We both have lived in families with cats before and this has always been a problem for both of us. We wanted to make sure that whichever rubbish we choose, the smell is masked as much as possible. Also, my friend is very environmentally conscious (me too, but not at his level!) so another important factor for us was that the filling is biodegradable. We also hoped we could wash the garbage; We don't like the idea of using disposable bags every time we clean the box, and we also felt that we couldn't keep a waste bin handy as we are very sensitive to odours. We were hoping we could get rid of something quickly. In my research, I focused solely on the above factors. Several brands have popped up multiple times and I've looked through them all and weighed the pros and cons of each. I didn't buy anything as we hadn't thought of a cat yet and didn't know when we were going to adopt her, so I added her to the list. Our chance for adoption came out of the blue! A family friend's cat had just had a litter and they were looking for good homes for the kittens. One of them was a little black kitten and my boyfriend and I fell in love instantly. We wanted a cat that was at least a few years old, but when we saw her we knew she was ours. Family friends have informed us that in a few weeks the kitten will be ready to go home with us. The race has started! We've spent so much time protecting the house from kittens that we completely forgot to buy any litter. Just a few days before our kitten was due to be brought home, I panicked when I realized I had forgotten to decide on a litter. I chose Okocat based primarily on two factors: 1) the size was the smallest I could get out of all the litters we considered and we didn't know if he would like it, and 2) the price was the cheapest in terms of the amount of filler than other brands we reviewed. I made a last minute decision and bought this, thinking if she didn't like the litter I could just buy one of the other types later. I'm not a strong person but upon arrival I was very happy. with the weight of the box. Nice and light and more than I expected. My friend and I filled the prepared tray and crossed our fingers that the cat liked it. We took the kitten home and to our surprise she went to the tray IMMEDIATELY. She was exactly 8 weeks old when we brought her home and we were afraid she would have problems. Our home is a few hours drive from where she was born, so she had a hard time getting back. We were also concerned that family friends were using cheap clay litter when weaned and we didn't know if Okocat would accept the kitten. The move plus the change of sheets plus all the regular stress of just being in a new environment made us fear that she would be unhappy or uncomfortable. Thankfully, she seems to like the throw. Although our cat is still so young, she has not had a single accident. Every time, from the first time, she went straight into the tray and used it perfectly. She likes to rummage through her box before and after her business and the coquette look seems to suit her. It's soft on her sensitive cat paws and hides her poop. She never complained about it. As for me and my boyfriend, neither of us has any problem cleaning. We have a heavy duty scoop with medium slots and the scatter filters are great. Clumps aren't the tightest, but we don't really bother as we only have one kitten and can afford to buy more litter if needed. Lumps are easy to spot and won't fall apart when we shake the measuring spoon to filter. They also flush well with no issues, which was a big concern for us. As for the downsides, as several people have mentioned, there are some tracking issues. Even though my cat wipes her paws on the mat and litter box entrance before leaving the area, there is still some litter left that just spills all over the place in front of the litter box (this isn't due to the ditch as we have a hooded box) . catches any debris that flies around when the kitten is digging). A lot can get caught on their little legs and when they do they are difficult to remove as some of the granules are too big for our (admittedly weak) vacuum cleaner. And if you accidentally get that little junk wet, it's almost impossible to clean up right now. When wet, it looks very evil. But for now, honestly, that's the only problem we've encountered. Our kitten is almost two weeks old now and we are more than happy with the Okocat Natural Wood clumping litter. I had absolutely no reason to think about a brand change. If anything changes I'll come back to update, but for now things are looking pretty good. Trust me - I never leave reviews unless I'm pleasantly surprised with a product, and for this toss I was! I'll only use it as long as the kitten likes it - if it ain't broke don't fix it. tl; dr: that's a pretty good thing!
