Does what it's supposed to - offers clearly noticeable protection against theft. These things aren't designed to stop the most determined and well-equipped thieves, they're primarily designed to deter theft. Very useful for things like hotels, trains or other situations where you really don't want to take your laptop everywhere but can't easily secure it any other way. No security is 100% perfect, and a thief with bolt cutters, or just someone who doesn't care what they're trying to steal, can still get away with your laptop. But then *nothing* works except for a large safe bolted to the floor, which is a different category of equipment. This lock is small enough to carry in a laptop bag and rolls itself up when you're done using it. It's easy to change the combination to something only you know. (Just make it something to remember.) I wish the cable was a bit longer, but then it would get a little unwieldy, so its length is probably a reasonable compromise.
