Claims that this will work without a trunk on your car are misleading. Hooks intended for attachment to the upholstery in the door will not hold the load. After just an hour, the backing came off and the mat underneath came loose. A hook attached to the fixed straps just won't pull tight enough in the window. Good thing I picked up some ratchet straps to bypass the device in the car. It wasn't a perfect solution, but it helped us achieve our goal as there was no more space in my SUV. I didn't even bother going home and trying to use hook straps because I knew they wouldn't work. I have a 2017 Toyota Highlander so maybe the window frame wasn't what the manufacturer of this product expects for tie downs. I would also advise packing the heaviest items in the front pocket, which I didn't do on the way to our campsite. Perhaps the lighter weight up front allowed the wind to tighten the straps more. On the way home I put the heavier items in front but don't know if it was better to use the straps because I didn't mess with them. Other than that, I think the trunk with the luggage rack on your car will be fine. Finally, on the first pull after loading the boot, one of the zippers broke for the first time. Very discouraged by this even before we left the house. At least one remaining flash was working. Was waterproof as it rained heavily the last 30-45 minutes of our trip and everything was dry.
