As my name suggests, I've tried other brands of biodegradable and renewable sponges like these with coconut shell fibers for the "dirty" side. My experience with them was that the coconut shell side didn't last very long. These sponges seem to have solved that problem: the dirty side lasts about as long as their nylon counterparts. I don't know how they do this, although I suspect that a higher percentage of synthetic plastic binder is used to hold the coir fibers together. It's also worth noting that these sponges are larger at roughly 5" x 3.25" than standard dishwashing sponges at roughly 4.25" x 3". I find this makes them a little awkward to wash the inside of small glasses etc. But overall I'm happy with them.
