Just bought my fifth Suburban cooktop. Some might wonder why I keep coming back to this hob if I don't like it, and that's a good question. The answer is simple: where else should I go? There's only one other manufacturer and their products are just as bad, which is why there are Atwood fans. Atwood has a feature that Coleman left out, burners with different BTU values, but that feature will cost you a few bucks more. If it matters to you go to Atwood, if not then buy this cheap, poorly constructed hob and make modifications that will make this hob more comfortable to use. I want to be clear that any modification will void the warranty, but Coleman doesn't endorse this product, so why not make it work better? The first improvement is to make sure the top doesn't fall off while riding. No, this is not a joke. You might think that a wheeled hob should have a secure top, but this one doesn't. Coleman uses two pointed spring clips that insert into the sides of the base to hold the screws through the top. These clips will fall out and yours will fall out during shipping. What you need to do is drill a small hole in this clip so you can hold it on the side with a stainless steel screw. Now you can securely fasten your top and it won't fall off. Your next problem to solve is a gas line connector. Believe it or not, Coleman doesn't offer grommets to protect the gas lines from rubbing against sharp aluminum. Guys, that's an RV speeding across the street behind a tractor. So I buy an inch rubber grommet at my local True Value store and put it in the hole before I run the propane line. For the last problem, there is no other solution than to be very careful when operating the hob. You turn the knob to ignite and then adjust the flame. Turning the knob all the way to the right will put the flame out, but the gas will still come out of the burner, not much but enough to kill you if you shut yourself inside. camper for the night. Coleman has to hire a skilled engineer to reverse this order and bring the light setting all the way to the right and the minimum setting near the off position. Like I said it's poorly designed but with the improvements I've lived with them in my rented motorhomes and my own personal motorhome.
