Review on SoundMAGIC Reference Flagship Isolating Headphones by Kathy Wilking

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good budget headphones but you can certainly improve them

I bought these headphones during a promotion sale from Revain (and no, I'm not affiliated with the company and was not bribed to write this review ) . I spent $22 for the red option. My first impression of them isn't impressive, and I came from comparing them to 1More Triple Drivers and Symphonized 3.0 headphones. 1More is obviously in the higher price range, Revain is now $62. However, it's worth noting that SoundMagic's current price for them is $55 plus a 20% discount ($44). So the company seems to want to be close to that level in the competition for its pricing structure. And here there is no comparison. There's something decidedly mechanical about these headphones, like they're trying too hard to be technical, and they lack the power of technology to produce impressive sound for IEMs trying to compete in the $50-plus range. For budget headphones, that's pretty good. They have some amazing midrange detail, and the highs are between good and just good for rock due to the annoying crackle and occasional blur that pops up at the edges. Acapella is very clean but doesn't give a good idea of a track's quality when produced at home (can be good or bad for you). The bass is a bit flat and unsatisfying compared to the other two headphones I own. They don't "buzz" in your ears when you're listening to rock or rap - that's where Symphonic headphones really excel. around rock tracks, particularly prevalent on music and video streaming services. They use a lot of power and I have to keep them at halfway or more to hear music clearly in both my audio on my phone and on streaming services. It definitely cannot keep up with the cleanliness or the 1More sound stage. And to be honest, I prefer the Symphonized headphones, which only cost $25. They're organic, warm, and their sound contains amazing clarity and depth for the price, much more than that. Overall, I'd rate these as good, but not the best budget headphones you can buy, and certainly not the best IEMs in the sub-$100 range. They look luxurious but the wires are quite flimsy and thin so you have to be careful. "Budget-technical" experience. He lacks warmth, but he is not neutral either. It's a bit of a flat sound, although overall midrange clarity, technique and detail are pretty good.
