We have a fireplace that was originally screened and was never intended to be used. We spent almost as much on it as we did on this unit, and THIS UNIT LOOKS WAY BETTER. It actually looks like a brick fireplace. I noticed that the brick pattern seems to be something that other people have complained about. I carefully smoothed it out and then ran a mesh screen over the chimney (this is exactly the look I originally wanted to do and could only find a few spots) and you can't see it even if you look for it. Even without the trellis, the views couldn't be seen unless you were looking because they matched the brick pattern perfectly. It also gives a warm feeling to the fireplace as the brick pattern is light and looks like new brick. Saying I'm happy means saying nothing. I never thought an electric fireplace would look this good (and I have two other standalone units that cost me $400 and $700 each). I wish I had thought of buying this unit sooner as it is worth every penny and looks amazing.
