Inexpensive for some applications

Advantages: Inexpensive (back then), quiet operation; Just install hard drives. Cons: If the drive is mounted before my Macintosh boots up, the drive never mounts. I have to turn the drive on and off! It's annoying because I use two of them, one for storing my photos and music libraries; another for Time Machine. I haven't had this problem with any other case. β€’ I bought two of these discs at the same time and both behave the same. β€’ Tested on two computers (Mac Mini; MacBook Pro) with OS X Mojave 10.14. 5. I note that the Vantec support site suggests that if the drive won't mount, you should try turning on the computer before the drive. So I think they realize that some people should expect that kind of behavior. If you only do file transfers or backups from time to time, or carry them around with your laptop, the above behavior may not be a problem. The price is good and at the end of each day you will still turn it off. But if, like me, you want to use one with your desktop as a permanent second drive, then there may be better options. UPDATE: A year later I lost my patience. It is unacceptable that after restarting the computer, my external music and photo libraries are not accessible until I power cycle the drive. If you want a mediocre case, there are cheaper ones out there. I am lowering my rating.
