Quality case but lack of customer service and missing screws.

High quality suitcase. Nice aluminum exterior. Easy to install but can't protect my hard drive as the instructions say to use small screws when installing but they should be big screws but my box only had 3. I have to subtract 2 stars from 1 for poor instructions and came with only 3 large screws when it should have been 4 to secure the hard drive. Another star deducted for customer service. I contacted Vantec through Revain and said the instructions were wrong and more "big screws" wereโ€ฆ

Impressive! in Computers & Accessories category

I ran out of space on my external backup drive (USB 3.0 2.5" 5 TB) which averaged 40 MB/s. I bought a Vantec case and installed an 8TB 3.5" 5400 Baracuda drive with an average speed of 175MB/s. The assembly was uncomplicated. There were issues with the USB-C connection, the disk was recognized but worked fine with a USB 3.1 Gen2 connection. Great that they made both cable options available. Runs relatively cool at 119 degrees Fahrenheit. Other comments about the position of the indicator lightโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Annoying

I bought two of these and they work great. Hard Drives - I have a 4TB WD Black hard drive that delivers around 200MB/s read/write speeds and an 8TB White Label hard drive that came from a WD My Book. This removed drive worked natively WITHOUT having to block the 3rd pin! I am very happy about this little surprise. I'm seeing around 180MB/s for reading and writing. Some of my older Seagate drives have slightly slower speeds, but I don't have an Iron Wolf to test with (my Baracuda Compute drivesโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • So far so good

Unfortunately I got around to testing this FALSE! I have two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports on this new Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master (5800X/64GB). Copying from a Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus PCIe 4 x4 (7000+ Mbit/s read) to a SATA II (3 Gbit/s) drive in this enclosure shows easy connectivity and a SATA I (NOT SATA II) 1.5 Gbit /s throughput. The drive delivers 140 Mb/s write speed test results on a true SATA II or III bus. No wonder only SATA I write speeds are achieved with this scam. Because THIS IS NOT SATA III

Inexpensive for some applications

Advantages: Inexpensive (back then), quiet operation; Just install hard drives. Cons: If the drive is mounted before my Macintosh boots up, the drive never mounts. I have to turn the drive on and off! It's annoying because I use two of them, one for storing my photos and music libraries; another for Time Machine. I haven't had this problem with any other case. โ€ข I bought two of these discs at the same time and both behave the same. โ€ข Tested on two computers (Mac Mini; MacBook Pro) with OS Xโ€ฆ

What I needed best in computers and accessories

Bought in July, have been using it ever since. I just got another one I bought last week. I love this product. Good for what I need it for (cold backup). Very durable enclosure for USB 3.1 Gen 2. Good price. Had no problems. Installation is very simple (essentially a plug and play device). I'm very happy with the product, which is why I bought another one. I tested 3 different hard drives from 2 different brands and a SATA SSD. All 4 drives performed as expected with no noticeableโ€ฆ
