Nice tomahawk for $20.

I don't give many bad reviews. I'm pretty easy to please, but I can't get past this product. Like many who will be buying this tomahawk, I was inspired by the Wranglerstar review. He bought it for $24, but as soon as the video was released, the price went up to $38 due to demand. I went for it anyway because Cody was so good looking. I knew there would be no edge and the grip would have to be well adjusted. What the Cody sample didn't have was I deducted 3 stars. The Handle: Let me start with the good part. I liked the pen. The grain ran at a 45 degree angle to the bit and was finished with a light wax. It has a bit of gist, but that doesn't bother me. The fit was good at the top but there were gaps at the bottom. This is not an uncommon problem for budget hawks. I usually make sure the head doesn't move during use and don't worry too much about making it look perfect. Head: So mine came the same as the Wranglerstar with about 1mm of flattening where the sides need to meet to form the edge. I don't think they intended to complete the hem, they just wanted to add a bevel. Then things went wrong. The cheeks (flanks) of the bit have a nice rough finish and slag from forging and heat treating, but the top and bottom look as if they were dark sanded. The sharpening angle changes and several passes do not match. It appears to have been made with an angle grinder and resembles what metal looked like when I first used this tool. I considered sharpening it myself, but given that I paid close to $40, I wanted something better than Cold Steel. Unfortunately it isn't. Cold Steels' heads may be covered in paint, but they're better finished. All in all if it cost $24 I could get one. Perfomance. This will be after I get all of Cold Steel's falcons and all of the offers I like from Crazy Crow Trading Co. If you want something similar in size, weight, and style, the Cold Steel Frontier Hawk is it. It'll cost a few bucks more, but it'll be way better than the Falcon I was talking about. Strip the paint and varnish off the handle and you'll find a much better tomahawk than this one. I do not recommend.
