These coasters are pretty cool. They are plastic and you need to remove the small piece of rubber at the bottom. They then turn on as soon as you place a drink on them as the weight of the drink depresses the little button at the bottom. They turn off when you raise your glass because the actual coaster isn't heavy enough to push the button. They are very bright, brighter than I expected, we tried them in the dark and it was too much. Almost like a night light. But in normal light they are perfect and I would recommend them. If something goes wrong with them I will update them but for now I am happy with the purchase.
