Review on πŸ”ͺ Unleash Precision with the DMT D11C 11.5 Inch Dia Sharp Bench by Jimmy Hargrove

Good after a good finish,,,

How this stone was received was terrible. There were a lot of extra diamond bits on the surface so it just gouged out the edge of the first knife I tried. I carefully ran the blade of the X-acto chisel all over the surface, chipping off most of the larger pieces. It still cuts and gnaws too aggressively. Then I got kind of angry and put an old bench stone under running water. It worked! This slab is now my favorite stone. It cuts clean and smooth, and the large size is pure luxury! I've used the same trick on other diamond blade sharpeners since. He improved every one of them. I use the thin side of an old 8" x 2" double sided stone (probably a very old Sears model). It's similar to the dressing stone used by Tormec if you're familiar with that device. It doesn't require much effort, and running water will help wash away loose parts and prevent plate leakage. That is unnecessary. The maker must do the finishing/lapping of this stone. I suspect the cost reduction went a few steps too far out of the manufacturing process. Personal observation: These diamond stones cut more aggressively than old school whetstones, so the extra fine stone seems to be on par with the old thin stone.
