I needed a wide-angle prime lens that I could take to parties where the shooting distance was roughly the same and I could get better image quality than zoom lenses. Because this lens is fast at f/1.8, it focuses very quickly even in low light. It doesn't have an ultrasonic focusing mechanism, but the focusing speed is very fast, and it has a clutched focus ring so I can hold the lens and not get in the way of turning the focus ring. The body appears to be very dense and well put together. Texture and feel are perfect. The picture quality is very good. Colors are natural and very clear at 1.8 and even better at 2.0 and higher. The macro is excellent and since it has 9 curved aperture blades the bokeh looks very nice. There are practically no distortions and aberrations, the focus is accurate. Although this lens is slightly larger and heavier than one would want from such a prime lens, the benefits of a brighter viewfinder (due to f/1.8), extremely sharp images and very good build quality make it a good value. Value for money (especially for the price).
