Love this lens - Camera lenses

I LOVE this lens, it's light weight and very well built. I bought it refurbished for $330 and at that price it's the best 24mm lens you can get. The photos I've taken so far are amazing, I love the field of view and the shallow depth of field. Great lens, if you see one for a good price buy it.

Pros
  • Good workmanship
Cons
  • Minor issues

Good indoor lens

I wanted to use this lens for indoor photography without a flash. I have 50mm f1.4 and 35mm f2.4 but sometimes they are too long, especially for group shots. I want a Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 but can't afford it. Some of the reviews on this lens have been negative, but I think it's perfect for my purposes. My pictures turn out much better than pictures taken with flash cameras. This lens is big and heavy, especially compared to my tiny, light 35mm f2.4 lens, but I like the weight because it's easierโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Great design
Cons

Great value for money wide angle prime lens

For a fast wide angle prime lens this lens offers excellent value for money. Having done over 500 interior and exterior shots, I highly recommend it. Images are sharp up to f/2.0 and acceptable at f/1.8 on a full-frame Canon 5D camera. The possibilities of very close focusing open up interesting design possibilities. Visually, it's on par with the non-L Canon Prime lenses I own, but it's a bit sturdier in construction. Excellent pages under f/4. Tolerates the lighting well. Autofocus responseโ€ฆ

Soft like cotton. Best in Camera & Photography

The 24mm is my favorite prime lens. Wide enough for snapshots and ideal for street photography. Unfortunately it was the softest lens (not sharp) of all the lenses I've used. It will be an instant return. I am very disappointed in this lens. The new range of Sigma materials (e.g. 18-35) are excellent materials of high quality. I've given up on several Sigma lenses and this is by far the worst. I know mm and aperture can be tempting for some, but do yourself a favor and stay away from this lens.

Pros
  • Quick Change
Cons
  • Hard to say

Good and affordable

The lens is sharp and fast enough for most situations. It's quite heavy and that on my Pentax K20D makes my camera a lot heavier than it already is. A newer case with a deeper grip will likely make it more comfortable to hold. I don't know why the Revain website says this lens doesn't work with my Pentax model but I assure you it does. It has an "A" mode that allows me to set the aperture with the camera, not just on the lens itself. I could also do it directly on the lens, just like the oldโ€ฆ

  • A few minor things

A good price for lenses

I use my camera for one of two purposes: (1) photographing the details of old, derelict abandoned houses and (2) photographing unknown punk bands in small clubs. I chose the Sigma 24MM 1.8 (4/3 mount) for more flexibility in low light. So far he's done well. I can get some good shallow depth of field macro shots in abandoned houses with low light. And when I'm shooting live groups, I get an extra stop or two, which reduces noise and/or freezes the action with a faster shutter speed. switchingโ€ฆ

Pros
  • is clear even for the old
Cons
  • . Requires an outlet

Great quality but a bit heavy and big.

I needed a wide-angle prime lens that I could take to parties where the shooting distance was roughly the same and I could get better image quality than zoom lenses. Because this lens is fast at f/1.8, it focuses very quickly even in low light. It doesn't have an ultrasonic focusing mechanism, but the focusing speed is very fast, and it has a clutched focus ring so I can hold the lens and not get in the way of turning the focus ring. The body appears to be very dense and well put togetherโ€ฆ

Pros
  • build quality
Cons
  • the list will be long.

Great combination of 24mm AND macro

The idea of having wide angle macro was incredibly appealing to me. Getting a few inches away from the subject with such an exaggeratedly wide angle can produce incredibly attractive results. I love the creative possibilities of this lens. Big! In addition, the 1.8 lens allows you to shoot handheld at night under street lighting. The price is great. The workmanship is very good, not a tank like my Nikon 105mm, but very good. It doesn't look cheap at all. To switch from auto focus to manualโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Looking forward to
Cons
  • Update availability

Sigma convinced me

I've worked with many photographers who are loyal to their brand, people who never give up Canon or Nikon lenses. Canon and Nikon make good glass, but sometimes there are certain categories of lenses or certain primes that neither of them have. I recently switched to a 5D MkII from my 5 year old Canon Digital Rebel XT and needed a new wide angle lens as I had different EF-S mounts. Canon's next ideal offering was 28mm f/1.8, but I wanted something wider, something in the 24mm range that Canonโ€ฆ
