The idea of having wide angle macro was incredibly appealing to me. Getting a few inches away from the subject with such an exaggeratedly wide angle can produce incredibly attractive results. I love the creative possibilities of this lens. Big! In addition, the 1.8 lens allows you to shoot handheld at night under street lighting. The price is great. The workmanship is very good, not a tank like my Nikon 105mm, but very good. It doesn't look cheap at all. To switch from auto focus to manual focus you need to switch the camera and also loosen the focus ring on the lens by sliding it towards the front of the lens or camera body. It's not a big deal like some of the other reviews. At 1.8 the lens is a bit soft, but only a little. If you're used to a $1,500 Nikon 14mm lens, you might be a little disappointed. But the sharpness on the 2.5 lens is normal. Don't worry the more you close it. The creativity, price, build quality and aperture of the lens MUCH outweigh the slight softness issue for me. If you want wide angle macro then for the price it is HIGHLY recommended. I love it and use it exclusively on my f100.
