Review on 59401 Hitch 4 Bike Carrier Security by Jimmy Scaturro

Second time buying this model. The first only served about three years (2015-2018). The locking mechanism fell out of the plastic case after about a year. The rubber straps broke after two years. It rusted and the folding mechanism never worked as pictured. However, I liked the price and it was one of the few totes that suited me SUV so I bought another one in December 2018 which I've been using for less than three months. Here are the problems: The carrier packs a lot more punch than the first one I bought, but at least the tilt mechanism now works as I expected. However, I agree with other posters, it can only be tipped over if there are no bikes on the stand. But most importantly today for the first time I tried to use the lock and both keys broke off in the lock and the lock wouldn't turn. I even greased the lock in front of us. I inserted the second key and tried to turn the lock very gently, but almost effortlessly the key clicked like plastic. I have contacted customer service so we can see what they say and if they are honoring their warranty. Bottom line, this is a cheap product and there are probably better bike mounts out there for a comparable price or a little more. Don't buy this product for the lock - it will definitely break after a few uses. I will not buy this carrier again - not worth the hassle and quite a disappointment.
