Review on Pirelli Ice Zero 205/60 R16 96T winter by Stanisaw Wojnowski ᠌

The product did not disappoint, the quality pleases.

Excellent grip in all conditions, including snow, ice, and dry/wet/mush pavement. On icy or snow-packed surfaces, the braking performance is excellent. It's considerably harsher on ice that's been dusted with snow. On ice, snow, ice coated in snow, and in porridge, the breakdown into side slide happens far longer than on other rubbers I have used. When the car begins to slide to one side, regaining control is rather simple thanks to a springy sensation that quickly puts it back where it belongs. When driving on dry or wet pavement in good weather, it almost acts like summer (except for the enormous noise): it skids very little when beginning, almost never breaks into side sliding, and has excellent stopping power. It was rather noisy after being set up. Once I'd traveled a thousand kilometers on asphalt, the noise level dropped significantly. As of this writing, the rubber has traveled around 8,000 kilometers, almost 2,000 of which have been over the ice and snow of the 2022 winter. One spike was all I could tell was missing. After three years of use (about 40,000 miles), I'll add. In that time, between a quarter and a half of the studs had fallen off each wheel. While the tread height does allow for repair studs to be installed into existing holes, the non-standard nature of the native stud prevents tire repairmen from doing so. I've opted to finish the ship anyhow. In general, Velcro is pretty reliable. I didn't realize I'd lost so many spikes until the tire guys pointed them out to me. The handling hasn't changed much.

Pros
  • Superior traction in wet conditions (ice, snow, oatmeal, asphalt). How dependable spike installation is. Price. Good traction despite some stud wear and tear.
Cons
  • Damaged beyond repair spike. Noise. However, this rubber's braking effectiveness is not up to par when used on ice that has been covered with snow.
