No more annoying relay clicks from the DAC

I posted a question prior to buying this converter. I would like to thank all who responded to my question. My Antelope Zodiac Gold DAC uses mechanical relays so I hear this really annoying relay clicks when music starts, stops or when sampling frequency changes. I needed a solution to keep the signal going even no music is playing. This way the relay will stay engaged. One possible but expensive solution I found was to use a Lynx AES16e interface card to connect my DAC's AES/EBU input. AES16e keeps the (44.1KHz) signal going even no music is playing. The problem is I have a dedicated HTPC that can only accept a low profile card. Lynx AES16e is full height so it wouldn't fit. With this converter, I can use my HTPC's USB port and convert the signal to Coaxial or Optical. I settled for the Coaxial port and was very pleased to confirm the signal output stays on even no music is playing. My source material is 44.1KHz, 16 bit music files that's why I leave it at this frequency. It would have been cleaner for cabling if Douk Audio put the USB port on the same side as the Coaxial and Optical ports. This converter is very small so they would have to move the HDMI and external 5V input port to the side. I guess we will just figure out a way to hide the entire converter and cables.Sound quality wise, I am still experimenting with the music players (foobar2000, iTunes, VLC) in both Windows and MacOS. For some reason, if I use my Pioneer Elite CD player as a transport and feed it to the same Coaxial input on the DAC, the sound quality is cleaner, darker and overall sweeter. But I am not deducting any point based on this observation.Windows 11, while not recognizing this converter in the Device Manager, has no problem when I run foobar2000. I was still able to select this converter from the output list and use it in the exclusive mode.Overall, this converter is very well made and works as designed. I am glad I have found this product.

Pros
  • Signal Converters
Cons
  • It has a learning curve to fully understand how to use it

Works ok but be advised that playing DSD on the I2S output, L and R channels are reversed. Also, does not play DSD256 via DOP but rather converts to PCM 352.8 kHz.
