Review on HOPOPRO 18-Stage Universal Shower Head Filter - High Flow Hard Water Softener To Remove Chlorine, Fluoride & Heavy Metals (NBC News Recommended Brand). by Steve Yatnalkar

Water meter shows an increase in PPM after flow, and no noticeable softness improvement

If it's too good to be true . So, I guess it stands to reason. The filter in my fridge is about twice the size of this one. The reverse osmosis filter system that my brother-in-law installed, instead, includes three canisters the size of 1-liter bottles, and has a gallon buffer tank with a bladder to pool up the water in advance of need, since the filter reduces pressure. I used this for a couple of weeks. Neither my wife or I noticed an improvement in softness. Pressure did seem to drop a bit. But, even more frustrating was that I'd expect a water filter to remove materials from the water. When tested the water from the faucet without a meter [cold water], and with a filter [also cold water], the PPM actually went up a bit. There is no salt reservoir to soften the water, so this filter shouldn't be contributing particulate matter to the water, right? On top of this. The build quality is not spectacular. Chrome-colored paint on a hard plastic shell. I can see how it might crack easily.I pitched mine after two weeks. Glad I didn't pre-buy a bunch of filter cartridges.

Pros
  • Portable design makes it easy to take with you on the go
Cons
  • May not effectively filter out all harmful gases
