I tighten it when I'm walking, pull the buckle a bit to loosen it when I want to switch to shooting mode. It's safe when I know I won't drop it. I like it because it's very low, very well made, the padding is ok if it fits your camera properly and it works for me. By the way, I hate collars. In addition, the company's website has a very good guide on what types of cameras it works best with. It doesn't work with every camera that has a mid-body mounting point; He likes cameras with attachments on the top of the body (especially Nikon).
