My Macbook Pro (13" Early 2011) is a lot smoother now! Things don't load instantly or anything, but they're a lot faster and if when they are opened, my laptop can handle several at the same time! I see a spinning loading cursor much less often and my computer is much more efficient. To give you an idea of the difference that makes, I had three windows open a few days prior to the purchase: Chrome, Word and Spotify; My computer was running at a snail's pace and I could do almost nothing. I spent almost an hour opening Word, finding the instructions, opening the file and converting footnotes to endnotes. 24 apps in total including Word , Powerpoint, Spotify, Steam, iTunes, and the App Store to name a few.) With them all open, my computer ran so well that the fan wouldn't even spin up switched. I used about 10GB of storage and it was very easy to use the apps. They were so easy to install! I recommend looking online for instructions and maybe buying a tiny screwdriver if you don't already have one, but I had no problems and replaced my old memory in less than 5 minutes. I can't recommend it highly enough. However, if you plan to only use your computer for things like email, social media, etc., I think the 8GB (2 x 4GB) option will do. The reason I chose 16 is because I do a lot of photo editing and digital art and wanted to make sure these programs ran smoothly. If anything changes in functionality, I'll update my review. But right now I couldn't be happier. My laptop can multitask again!
