Review on 🔧 Johnson Level Tool 700 Magnetic": Enhanced Search-Engine-Optimized Product Name - Minimally Altered. by Bobby Martinez

Good for general construction purposes

This 700 degree viewfinder looks pretty well made despite being made entirely of plastic. The ceramic magnet is strong enough to hold onto even thin metal like a fridge, and it's reportedly glued to a flat plate that fits into a key slot on the back, so it shouldn't fall off when the protractor is removed from the metal surface will if the glue is ok. The needle is undamped and as long as the finderscope dial is held vertical the pin is free and sensitive. Any deviation from vertical (10 degrees or so?) and the arrow seems to be stuck. Accuracy is within 0.5 degrees of true horizontal. I used a couple of bubble levels to check and the needle was about 0.25 to 0.5 degrees off horizontal as indicated by the leveling bubbles. Not bad considering the angle finder's sculpted mounting/measuring surface is only 4.5 inches long. Checking some window ledges in the house, the arrow showed 0 degrees. I bought it to measure and set the gear angle on my car. is used to determine how two corners are compared and is great for that. The other measuring surface at a 90 degree angle to the magnet surface is a V-groove for pipes and curves. There is no magnet on this side to automatically hold the protractor on the pipe. The image in the web page header shows "V-Groove Magnetic Edge". Yes, this edge is magnetic, but it's flat. The video shows this clearly. make no mistake Just don't throw it in the tool box thinking it's going to last a long time. This is a delicate measuring tool! If you need ultra-precise angles, buy a quality digital level. UPDATE: After about a week the magnet fell out as others have pointed out, I epoxy sealed it and it's not going anywhere. e now!

Pros
  • Strong magnetic contact for accurate angle detection
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
